BOARD
MATTER
August
2, 2004
Mr.
Chairman: The Fairfax County Public School Board is interested
in continued discussions with the Fairfax County Board of
Supervisors to review opportunities of improved collaboration
between Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and Fairfax County
Government (FCG). Specifically, the school board is interested
in reviewing the current and future financial and procurement
systems used by FCPS and FCG.
To
begin this process, FCPS recommends that the respective boards
hold a joint Technology Work Session in September 2004. This
initial joint work session would include a presentation on
the current state of financial and procurement systems. FCPS
and FCG staff would jointly present the current systems, capabilities,
and agreements between the two organizations. FCPS requests
that FCG staff also provide information to the boards on the
Booze|Allen|Hamilton study completed in 2002 for Fairfax County.
After
meeting with the FCPS IT Committee Chairman, Brad Center,
I have coordinated with staff to hold a joint BOS/School Board
IT Committee meeting on September 20 at 10 am. I hope that
all Board members will join us in this inaugural effort to
better coordinate both IT Committees. I move that the Office
of Public Affairs distribute a press release about this joint
meeting and also the partnership to be formed.

Note: The Joint IT Committee meeting has been postponed until
after a joint Board meeting with the School Board.
