BOARD
MATTER
July
26, 2004
Madam
Chairman: I hope that our colleagues have read about
the outstanding work that has been initiated by Jeanette
Stewart of Falls Church. Recently, Jeanette was named
EcoSteward of the Year by the EcoStewards Alliance.
Peter
Kelsey, founder and president of EcoStewards Alliance,
noted: "In just six years Jeanette's circle of
influence has expanded from the 10,000 square foot certified
backyard wildlife habitat she began in 1998 at her condominium,
to the green, living roof retrofitted there last year
on one of the 35-year-old buildings."
Supervisor
DuBois and I recently took a tour of the green roof
and rain garden at the Yorktowne Square Condominiums
in Falls Church. Soon, I hope to add another green roof
project to Providence District, as a member of my staff
is applying for a grant from the Department of Conservation
and Recreation; I am sure Jeanette looks forward to
this project.
Therefore,
Madam Chairman, I move that the Office of Public Affairs
prepare a Certificate of Recognition for Jeanette Stewart
on behalf of the Board of Supervisors for her environmental
stewardship and leadership in environmentally-oriented
projects and initiatives and that she be invited to
come before the Board at a future meeting to receive
this recognition.
