Pine
Spring Elementary School's 50th Anniversary

Chairman:
I
am honored to inform the Board and the residents of
Fairfax County of the 50th Anniversary celebration of
Pine Spring Elementary School. The school is located
between Route 50 and 29 and snuggly surrounded by the
beautiful Pine Spring community in Providence District.
Pine
Spring first opened its doors to students in September
1955 to included children in grades 1-7 to accommodate
the baby boomers after World War II. Today, Pine Spring
Elementary School boasts richness in its student body
diversity that includes students representing 25 countries
that speak in 14 languages. Pine Spring was also the
only school in Fairfax County to house a program for
the visually impaired.
Pine
Spring also boasts many awards notable from Fairfax
County Public Schools Gold Award of Excellence, Milken
National Educators Award, Commendation from the General
Assembly, and Governor's Certificate of Recognition
and many other prestigious awards and recognitions.
I commend and applaud the many successes accomplished
by the students, staff and community of Pine Spring
Elementary School.
Therefore,
I ask the Board for unanimous support in proclaiming
Saturday, June 8, 2005 as "Pine Spring Elementary
School Day" in Fairfax County and direct staff
to prepare the attached proclamation that will be read
at the celebration events day.
Proclamation
WHEREAS, Pine Spring Elementary School, which has grown
into a richly diverse community and is surrounded by the
beautiful Pine Spring community located in the Providence
District, is celebrating its 50 year legacy of education
and contribution to the community; and
WHEREAS, the original school opened its doors in September
of 1955 and currently celebrates a student body that represents
a population from over 25 countries that speak in 14 languages;
and
WHEREAS, it is the only school in Fairfax County to house
a program for the visually impaired; and
WHEREAS, the faculty, parents, and community of Pine Spring
are committed to increasing the emotional well-being and
the academic achievement of all students, while viewing
its diversity as a unique opportunity and strength that
enriches and broadens the educational experiences of all
students;
NOW THEREFOREBE IT RESOLVED, that the Fairfax County Board
of Supervisors on behalf of all residents of the Providence
District and Fairfax County, does hereby proclaim June
8, 2005, as Pine Spring Elementary School Day in
Fairfax County, to commemorate the 50th anniversary celebration
of Pine Spring Elementary School and its legacy of education
and commitment to the community.
