Providence Perspective
Mr. Chairman:
I have had the opportunity to meet many Providence residents over the last two years. Some of the most memorable meetings have been when residents took a moment to share a story with me. In those stories I have found many treasures that have captured our past into snapshots of memories that desire our attention.
As you know, one of our projects at the 2004 Providence District VolunteerFest® event was an oral history project sponsored by the James Lee Community Center’s computer lab and the Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation. I am further encouraged to present the following project in light of the successful history project “A Look Back at Braddock” that was undertaken by Supervisor Sharon Bulova’s office and which has given us Braddock’s True Gold, a truly delightful historical keepsake. With the assistance of a few good history buffs, my office will embark upon its own history projects entitled “Providence Perspective” that will capture in words and pictures, some of the rich past of Providence District.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite residents to submit historical recollection in words and/or pictures and welcome them to join the Providence Perspective Project Committee by contacting my office. Furthermore, I would request the Office of Public Affairs to publicize this exciting project. In addition, I would also request the assistance of other county agencies for this project as will be needed.
