Mr. Chairman: I am honored today to bring an event being held on October 2, 2004 to the Board's attention. The 20th Annual Oakton High School Classic - an invitational marching band competition - will be held the first Saturday in October. This Classic will feature the East Carolina University Marching Pirates and the University of Virginia Pep Band in exhibitions.

Over the last 20 years, the Classic has built a reputation for being one of the finest marching band competitions in Virginia. The Classic features four divisions of bands and this year will host more than 20 marching bands.

In honor of the 20th Annual Oakton Classic, I move that the Office of Public Affairs prepare a Proclamation designating October 2, 2004 as "Oakton Classic Day" in Fairfax County and that representative of the Oakton High School Bands come before the Board at our September 27 meeting, so they may receive the Proclamation prior to the band competition.
