Fastran General Information

It is sometimes called a paratransportation system or rider assisted transportation system, we call it Fastran. Fastran is a "door-to-door" transportation service for people who, because of a disability or disabling health condition, are unable to use public transportation. Fastran hours of operation are Monday through Friday during the day; service is not provided at night, on weekends, or on County holidays.

Programs

CRITICAL MEDICAL CARE
The Critical Medical Care Program is for residents who undergo continuing dialysis, cancer treatments or rehabilitative services on a space available basis.

DIAL-A-RIDE
The Dial-a-Ride Program is for residents, certified by Fastran, to be transported to and from medical appointments and essential shopping needs. DAR trips are only available between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays.

CHARTER SERVICE
Fastran buses are available to the county Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a per hour charge, from the time of pick-up to the time of drop-off on the return trip.

Fees

Most riders are not charged a fare. Dial-a-Ride users deposit $1 - $3 in the farebox each way, depending upon the length of the trip. Critical medical care users pay $0.00 - $5.00 per one-way trip depending upon income.

How to Become Certified

In order to be certified, you must meet specific guidelines. Please print and fill out a Fastran Application for Service. Applications may be faxed to: 703-803-8150 or 703-803-8166 or mailed to: Fastran Customer Service, 12011 Government Center Parkway, Suite 1040, Fairfax, VA 22035 or. Trip Cancellations

If you are unable to make your scheduled trip, call the 24-hour cancellation line at 703-324-7068, TTY 711 (Virginia Relay) 1-800-828-1120. The cancellation line is available 24 hours and accepts recorded messages. Please try to cancel before noon the day before. Callers will be prompted to leave their name, FASTRAN identification number, and the date(s) of the trip(s) to cancel.

Inclement Weather

During periods of snow or other inclement weather, Fastran service may be canceled. Listen to your radio for Fairfax County Public School announcements or call Fastran customer service at 703-222-9764, press 8. If Fairfax County Public Schools are closed, all scheduled Fastran trips, except chemotherapy, radiation, and dialysis trips, will be canceled. If the schools open 1-2 hours late or close early trips will be handled as follows:

Mental Health or
Mental Retardation Services - Provided late or early by the same durations

Dialysis, Chemotherapy,
and Radiation Trips - Will operate on schedule

Senior Centers, Adult Day Care
Mid-Day Charter and Dial-a-Ride - Will be canceled

Human Services Agencies Sponsoring Rides via Fastran

Mental Retardation Services - To and from support services and worksites

Mental Health Services - To and from services on a daily basis

Alcohol and Drug Services - Use is limited to transporting clients to the
Recovery Women's Center

Senior Centers - Arranged through centers only

Senior Residences - To weekly group grocery shopping trips and
Monthly mall trips to residents of 18 senior residence developments. Trips scheduled by sites

Senior Adult Day Health Care - To and from adult day health care centers

CRS Therapeutic Recreation - Mental retardation or physical disabilities to
Outings and structured recreational activities
