Tapestry for Tomorrow Awards Ceremony

On April 11, the Fairfax County Department of Community and Recreation Services will present awards to the winners of the 2008 Tapestry for Tomorrow Art Contest. The public is cordially invited to attend the Awards Ceremony from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway on the Lower Level.

Entries will be judged in two age groups (6th through 8th grade and 9th through 12th grade) and one special category being offered by the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra. The FSO will award a cash prize for artwork that best represents its 2007-2008 theme: Harmony, Celebrating our Heritage through the Arts. The goal is to focus on the expression of diversity through music.

Tapestry for Tomorrow gives young people an opportunity to express their ideas through art using a variety of art media such as charcoal, acrylic, oil paint, photography and computer graphics. All entries will be original works of art designed by young people who reside in any of the following: the counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun, and Prince William; the cities of Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, Manassas Park, and Alexandria; and the towns of Herndon and Vienna. Winners will be announced at the ceremony. Artwork will be taken home by the contestants or donated to Caterpillars to Butterflies, Inc. a nonprofit organization helping children with sickle cell anemia. For more information, call 703-324-TEEN (8336), TTY 711.
