Letter to Parents
Dear Parents:
I would like to remind you of a terrific, FREE summer resource that is available to kids eighteen years old and under in your area – the Summer Food Program for Kids in Fairfax County. The Summer Food Service Program is a federally funded program administered by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) that provides kids with healthy food they enjoy during the school year, even when schools are not in session.
Here in Fairfax County, the Free Summer Food Program for Kids is sponsored by the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services. All kids eighteen and under are invited to receive healthy meals at one of our meal sites. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some sites serve only lunch; others serve both meals. No meals will be served on July 4 or on weekends. Many of the programs listed below, provide fun planned activities for children, but you must be preregistered. Other sites, which are called open meal sites, require that you call the site three days in advance to receive a meal.
2011 Site list coming soon.
Please call us at 703-324-5282, TTY 711 to find out more about the
Summer Meals Program for Kids or find an open meal site location near
you.
Sincerely,
Brent Quarles
