Senior+ Program
Senior+ is an inclusive program within senior centers for Fairfax County residents ages 55 and older who have mild disabilities and impairments. This program enables participants to remain in the least restrictive environment and maintain as much independence as possible. Senior+ is available at seven sites. The program is sponsored by Community and Recreation Services and is operated in partnership with Easter Seals Greater Washington-Baltimore Region.
Easter Seals contract staff consists of a full-time Certified
Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS); health monitoring is provided
by a Registered Nurse (RN); and consultation on behavior and emotional
issues is provided by a Mental Health Therapist (MHT). Together, they
develop an individual wellness plan that outlines the goals that each
client is working to achieve. When attending senior centers, Senior+
members are able to follow the regular center schedule and are encouraged
to participate in all activities. When modifications are necessary, the
Senior+ team provides equipment, instruction, and support to ensure the
participant’s success.
