Notice of Public Hearing: Fairfax County Consolidated Community Advisory Committee (CCFAC)

Notice of Public Hearing

FAIRFAX COUNTY CONSOLIDATED COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE (CCFAC)

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. – Fairfax County Government Center, Conference Room 9/10

12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Virginia

The CCFAC invites you to participate in a conversation to help (1) identify the housing and community development needs in Fairfax County, and (2)determine the future direction of the Consolidated Community Funding Pool (CCFP).  The CCFP is the competitive grant process for funding human services offered by nonprofit agencies within Fairfax County and over $11 million dollars is typically allocated annually.

Participants will be asked to discuss their ideas and responses to the following questions:

  • What are the housing, community development and human services needs of the County?
  • How well is the County meeting these needs?
  • What is your understanding of the purpose and process of the CCFP in meeting the County’s needs?
  • What are the areas of the CCFP process that you think are working?
  • What areas of the process can be improved?
  • What do you think is the most effective way to distribute funds to nonprofit agencies in the future to address community needs?

Information from this community input session will be used 1) by the CCFAC to identify housing and other human service needs to be addressed in the Fairfax County Consolidated Plan One-Year Action Plan for FY 2014 (July 1, 2013- June 30, 2014) and 2) by a project steering committee (comprised of representatives from the CCFAC, nonprofit providers, Human Services Council members, former selection advisory committee members, outside grantors, County staff and other stakeholders) to craft recommendations on the future direction of the CCFP  to be presented to the Board of Supervisors in spring 2013.  These recommendations are in response to the Board of Supervisors’ May 2012 request for a review of the current CCFP funding framework, practices, and procedures to ensure the program supports strategic human services outcomes and leverages community resources for maximum collective impact on communities and those individuals and families most at risk.  Any proposed changes to the funding pool process will be gradually implemented in future funding cycles.

Please Note:  This public hearing is not for the purpose of soliciting requests for funding.

Housing and other human service needs identified will be addressed in the Fairfax County Consolidated Plan One-Year Action Plan for FY 2014 (July 1, 2013- June 30, 2014). The final plan will be approved by the Board of Supervisors and submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in May 2013.  The Consolidated Plan is a HUD requirement that combines the planning requirements of the National Affordable Housing Act of 1990 with the annual applications and reporting for HUD-funded programs administered by Fairfax County. Information from this hearing will also be used as a resource for the development of funding priorities for the county’s FY2015-2016 Consolidated Community Funding Pool.
