The Fairfax County Workforce Housing Summit will be held Wednesday, June 25 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Freddie Mac, 8200 Jones Branch Drive, McLean, VA 22102. The Workforce Housing Summit will bring together corporate and community leaders with county and state officials and experts in the areas of workforce housing and transportation to explore the pressing need for workforce housing in Fairfax County, the link between workforce housing and easing our traffic congestion problems and potential strategies for providing more workforce housing to ensure the continued success of the county's corporations, institutions and governmental services in attracting and retaining workers.
Speakers for the Summit will include Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly, Hunter Mill District Supervisor Catherine M. Hudgins and Patricia L. Cook, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer, Freddie Mac.
The event's keynote speakers will be Robert Thomson, a.k.a "Dr. Gridlock" of the Washington Post and Roger K. Lewis, FAIA, Professor Emeritus, University of Maryland and Columnist for The Washington Post.
A series of panel discussions will also occur. The first panel, Housing and Heavy Traffic: The Hidden Costs to Business, will feature Jeff Lubell, Executive Director, Center for Housing Policy; John McClain, Senior Fellow and Deputy Director, George Mason University School of Public Policy, Center for Regional Analysis; Olivia Biggs, Senior Manager of Workforce Initiatives, CVS; Kathleen Chappell, Director of Nursing Clinical Development and Research, Inova Health System and Craig Nickerson, Vice President, Expanding Markets, Freddie Mac.
The second panel, Understanding the Congestion Connection, includes J. Michael Pitchford, President and CEO, Community Development Preservation Corporation; Jo Anne Sorenson, Assistant District Administrator for Planning and Development, Northern Virginia District, Virginia Department of Transportation;
Chris Leinberger, Brookings Institute, Patterns of Developments and Ronald Kirby, Director, Department of Transportation Planning, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
Panel Three, Housing Solutions to Ease the Commute, features John Payne, Deputy Director, Real Estate, Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community , Development; Mark Lowham, Senior Vice President, WEST*GROUP; Paul Desjardin, Chief of Housing and Planning, Metropolitan Washington Council of Government and Thomas Calhoun, Vice President for Facilities, George Mason University.
