Housing Authority Honored by Department of Veterans Affairs
The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA) was
recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for its
efforts in supporting the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) voucher
program.
The only housing authority in Northern Virginia to collaborate with HUD
and VA on this program, the FCRHA received 35 vouchers to house homeless
U.S. veterans in the community. The HUD-VASH program combines
federal Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance, administered by the
FCRHA, with case management and clinical services provided by VA at its
medical centers and within the community.
“The FCRHA is honored to be part of a partnership that provides an
opportunity to support our nation’s military veterans,” said FCRHA
Chairman Ronald F. Christian. “We look forward to continuing our
work with the VA, providing affordable housing for those who have fought
so that we all may have a safe place to call home and the freedom to
enjoy it.”
The FCRHA received this special recognition for outstanding
contributions to the care of homeless veterans at a recent VA
meeting. The plaque was presented to the FCRHA at its annual
meeting on July 22, 2010.
