Streamlined Attorney Access

The Sheriff’s Office offers a streamlined access procedure for attorneys entering the Fairfax County Courthouse. Attorneys who complete an application, undergo a background check, and have a picture identification card issued by the Sheriff’s Office will bypass the security screening. There is no fee associated with this service.

The application form is available during business hours at the Sheriff’s Office on the first floor of the Courthouse (just past security and to your left) or can be downloaded now. Attorneys may fill out the form online, but a print-out with an original signature must be presented to the Sheriff's Office in person. Please allow up to four weeks for your application form to be processed. You will be notified via e-mail when you have been approved to have your picture taken and card issued.

The Sheriff’s Office will issue picture identification cards Thursday and Friday from 1:00-2:30 p.m., contingent on available staff.

To receive the card, attorneys must present:

  • completed application form
  • current Virginia State Bar card
  • picture identification card

The Fairfax County Courthouse is open to the public Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
