In an effort to streamline access to the courts and allow the entry screening employees more time to focus on those that may pose a security risk, the Sheriff’s Office is implementing a new access procedure for the Jennings Building. Attorneys who complete an application, undergo a background check and have a picture identification card issued by the Sheriff’s Office will bypass the security screening. There is no fee associated with this service.
The application form will be available during business hours at the Sheriff’s Office on the first floor of the Jennings Building or can be downloaded now. Attorneys may fill out the form online, but a print-out with an original signature must be presented to the Sheriff's Office in person.
To view the application form, Adobe Acrobat Reader must be installed on your system. The Reader can be downloaded and installed free from Adobe.
The Sheriff’s Office will issue picture identification cards Monday-Friday from 2:00-3:30 p.m. To receive the card, attorneys must present:
- completed application form
- current Virginia State Bar card
- picture identification card
Streamlined courthouse access for attorneys applies only to the Jennings Building.
