Follow the two-step application process:

1. Resume / Application

Fairfax County requires all job applicants to submit their resumes online through AIMS - Applicant Information Management System. Please direct any questions about AIMS to the Fairfax County Department of Human Resources at 703-222-5872, TTY 711.

2. Personal History Statement

All applicants for the position of Deputy Sheriff must complete a Personal History Statement, which asks for information about your professional and personal life going back many years. The form is available in a "fillable" format online. Review the entire packet prior to completing it.

Before you fill out the Personal History Statement, SAVE IT ON YOUR COMPUTER so that you won't lose your information. The form may take several hours to complete. If you need more space for residential history or employment history than the Personal History Statement provides, use the "download extra pages" links (see below). Also save those extra pages on your computer before you fill them out. Review the instructions on the first page of each form prior to completing it.

To fill out the form online, you must have the newest version of Adobe Reader on your computer. Download your free copy of Adobe Reader 8. Older versions of Adobe Reader do not have the features required for completing and saving this form.

After you fill out the forms, save them again and print them. Sign the forms, have them notorized (where applicable), and mail them to the Sheriff's Office.

You also will get a paper copy of the Personal History Statement in the mail within two weeks of completing Step 1 above. You can get a head start, though, by using the form that is online. If you are uncomfortable using a computer or don't have your own computer on which to save the form, then fill out the paper version using a typewriter (preferred) or by hand.

If you have any questions about the Personal History Statement, please e-mail the recruiting office or call 703-246-3274.
