Inmates at County Jail Earn GED Certificates

April 21, 2009

The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and Fairfax County Public Schools are proud to announce the graduation of 16 students on April 2, 2009. These students earned their General Educational Development Certificate while incarcerated in the Adult Detention Center.

Statistics have shown repeatedly that educational attainment while incarcerated is a key ingredient to reducing recidivism and, as a result, helps to make Fairfax County a safer place to live.

"This is a great collaboration between the Sheriff's Office and the school system that gives these men and women a chance to get their lives on track. We congratulate them on this achievement and wish them continued success when they re-enter the community," said Sheriff Stan Barry.
