FREE Child Safety Seat Inspection

Specially trained and certified sheriff's deputies will help parents and caregivers ensure that a child fits securely in the safety seat and that the safety seat fits securely in the vehicle seat.

Donation Drive for Fairfax County Animal Shelter
Please help us help companion critters awaiting adoption!
For the remainder of 2014, the Sheriff's Office will accept donations at our safety seat checkpoints. The shelter needs paper and cloth towels; new or gently used dog and cat beds; AA or AAA batteries; Dawn (brand-specific) dishwashing soap; quart- and gallon-sized Ziploc bags; high efficiency laundry detergent; leashes, collars and harnesses (new or gently used); food bowls; small stuffed animals for kittens; cat/kitten nail clippers; gift cards (pet stores and discount stores); Timothy hay; new Nylabones; clay cat litter (non-clumping); dry cat food and small- and bite-sized dog treats.

Virginia law requires that ALL children up to age 8 must be in a child restraint device (which includes a booster seat).

The law also states that ALL rear-facing infant seats MUST be placed in the back seat of a vehicle. In the event the vehicle does not have a back seat, the rear-facing infant seat may be placed in the front passenger seat ONLY if the vehicle is either not equipped with a passenger side airbag or the passenger side airbag has been deactivated.

Learn how to install a child safety seat from the comfort of your home or office! The Virginia Department of Health has a series of YouTube instructional videos to help you get the job done right.

If you cannot view the videos, or if you still need help with the safety seat installation after viewing them and you cannot make it to Safety Seat Saturday, you may request an appointment at the Sheriff's Office Fit Station. Please email the Sheriff's Office with your daytime phone number, and a sheriff's deputy will call you. The Fit Station is located at 10520 Judicial Drive in the Public Safety Center. The Fit Station operates by appointment only.
