Shop with a Sheriff

Deputy sheriff takes a girl shopping at Target. At the end of every summer, the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office partners with Target to take children who are homeless on a back-to-school shopping spree at the Target in Burke, Va. Now in its 18th year, Shop with a Sheriff pairs deputies and other Sheriff's Office staff with school-aged children temporarily residing at the Katherine K. Hanley Family Shelter in Fairfax and the Patrick Henry Family Shelter in Falls Church.

In 2011, the 25 participating children each had $300 to spend and received a backpack.

The Sheriff's Office thanks the following businesses and organizations for their generous donations to make this program a huge success:

  • Target - Burke, Va
  • Montessori of Chantilly - Casa dei Bambini
  • Panera - Lee Highway/Fairfax, Fairfax City, Springfield
  • Costco - Fairfax
