Social Needs Registry

Social Needs Logo Social Needs Registry

Communication with residents with social needs is important for successful emergency planning, response and recovery efforts. Residents with social needs are considered to be vulnerable, at-risk, or hard to reach in the event of an emergency, but who do not meet the definition of medical needs. These people may require targeted communication, transportation support, or sheltering in the event of an emergency.

Fairfax County seeks to partner with community organizations and faith based communities that have an on-going and trusted relationship with our residents with social needs. Through this partnership, Fairfax County and those organizations serving people with social needs, will enhance the County’s ability to communicate with the most vulnerable and hard-to-reach residents.

Fairfax County will provide emergency planning, response and recovery information to community organizations that register with the social needs registry. Registered organizations are encouraged to then relay this information to their organization's members.

During a major crisis or emergency, Fairfax County uses the award winning Community Emergency Alert Network (CEAN) to deliver important emergency alerts, notifications and updates. Fairfax County Government offers the Social Needs Registry and the CEAN as a public service. The Registry and CEAN will be used in conjunction with other public notification methods, such as cable Channel 16, the Fairfax County Government Web site, the Fairfax County Government Emergency Information Line (703-817-7771, TTY 711) and area media.
