Opportunities:
CFS-TIPS: Clifton/Fairfax Station Transition in Place
Homeowners and local governments have discovered it is cheaper and
better to assist homeowners to remain in their homes rather than move to
a retirement or assisted care facility. A new, local organization,
CFS-TIPS, an aging in place initiative, is ready to move forward and roll
out their help. CFS-TIPS plans to help member senior citizens obtain
services they need to remain in their homes, provide information on
reliable contractors, and promote wellness and social and cultural
activities that are important to seniors. As Fairfax County’s number of
older citizens continues to grow, initiatives like these can
meaningfully aide our communities. For more information on CFS-TIPS,
including how you can help, visit its Web site.
Meals on Wheels Needs Volunteer Drivers
The Area Agency on Aging urgently needs volunteers throughout our area to deliver meals to homebound seniors and adults with disabilities via the Meals on Wheels program. If you have a reliable car, two hours in the middle of the day once or twice a month, and a desire to help, you qualify as a vounteer. For more information on this program, call the Fairfax Area Agency on Aging at 703-324-5406 or read the 2007 press release for more information.
Clean Fairfax Council Cleanup Program
In the fall and spring, the Council supports County-wide cleanups by individual groups, schools, churches, and businesses. Clean Fairfax Council is a participant in the Great American Cleanup, a national litter control and recycling cleanup program to help make Fairfax County a cleaner place to live, work, and go to school. While they emphasize spring and fall cleanup, they welcome volunteers at any other time of the year. To plan a cleanup day, get some volunteers, select a site, and let the Council know of your plans. They will send you suppiles on a first come, first serve basis FREE OF CHARGE. Supplies include 30 gallon litter bags, clear bags for recyclables, safety vests, hats, safety tips, and other supplies you may need. For more information, contact their office at 703-324-5471, or by e-mail.
