- In response to feedback received from the community, the Plan amendment for Tysons will be brought forward to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors as a single unit, rather than in three stages as originally proposed.
- Staff will propose text updates and seek community input in three phases, focused on specific topics.
- The Plan amendment will be advertised for public hearing at the conclusion of Phase 3.
The public is invited to a follow-up dialogue with Fairfax County staff on a proposed amendment to the Comprehensive Plan for Tysons. In October, staff released an initial draft of the Phase 1 Plan updates on the Tysons web site for public comment and held a preliminary meeting with the Tysons community. Phase 1 covers the implementation, land use, and urban design sections of the Plan.
On Wednesday, December 4, at 7:30 p.m., County staff will discuss revisions to the Phase 1 draft as a result of the comments provided in October. Staff will also answer questions and listen to your comments on the proposals. Materials from the meeting will be posted on the web, and you are encouraged to email comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Staff will also discuss changes to the Tysons Plan amendment process on December 4. Based on feedback received from the community, a single Plan amendment for Tysons will be brought forward to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors rather than three separate amendments. Draft changes to the Tysons Plan will be presented in three phases covering specific topics, and staff will seek public input on each phase. The Plan amendment will be advertised for public hearing at the conclusion of Phase 3.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has authorized amendments to the Comprehensive Plan for Tysons that will reconcile the Plan text and maps with the studies and planning activities that have been completed to date. The current version of the Tysons Plan, adopted in 2010, recommends that additional work and studies be completed, such as detailed urban design guidelines and a funding plan for transportation improvements. Over the past three years, many of these recommended studies and plan implementation efforts have been completed, and staff is proposing updates to the Comprehensive Plan to reflect this work.
Phase 1 of the amendment process covers implementation, land use (including the Plan’s initial development level for office uses), and urban design. Phase 2 will cover transportation. Phase 3 will cover parks, public facilities, and other updates as may be determined during the amendment process. Public input sessions for Phases 2 and 3 will be held in the spring and fall of 2014, respectively. At the conclusion of Phase 3 (expected to be late 2014), a complete draft Plan amendment will be advertised for public hearing.
