How do I get around?
The Fairfax County homepage is the gateway to our Website. Information about county agencies, featured services, popular programs, initiatives, news and online transactions can be easily accessed from the homepage. Our Website is in organized into four interest areas. The extensive information in each of these areas - Living Here, Doing Business, Visiting, and Departments & Agencies - may be accessed by clicking on the tabs across the top of the homepage.
Four Main Subject Areas
Living Here is the section for county residents seeking information about county offices, programs and online services. Paying taxes, finding child care, scheduling trash pickup or registering for parks and recreation programs are just a few clicks away.
Doing Business is an area specifically for anyone who is interested in conducting business in or with Fairfax County. Information about business taxes, business licenses, business development and county business policy can be found in the Doing Business.
Visiting is where residents and visitors can learn about the variety of historic sites, attractions, shopping and entertainment available in Fairfax County and the surrounding region, who may or may not live here.
Departments & Agencies provides information about our government's structure, including the Board of Supervisors, management, and budget, and technology. There is a complete list of county departments and agencies and boards, authorities and commissions.
You can access these main area pages by clicking on their names next to the large, light circles on each of them, or by clicking their links on the headers and footers at the top of every page (including this one).
On each of the main area pages there is a list of links to corresponding subject pages (see screenshot ). Clicking on any of the subject links will take you to a subject page. These subject pages feature information on a given topic, like animals or the environment, supplied by different agencies within our government.
Every page (including this one) features a standard header and footer
at the top and bottom of every page. The footer lets you easily access
the 'Using this Site' area (where you are now) as well as the
'Contact Us' application which is a database of County
departments, phone numbers and email addresses. The Search Site:
box at the top right corner of every page allows you to search the
Fairfax County for words or phrases using the Google search
The subject pages begin with a couple paragraphs explaining the subject and incorporating some of the more important links into the text. Below these paragraphs, there are alphabetized categories with alphabetized links underneath them. These links are where you will find the actual content for a given subject.
Above the introductory paragraphs is a white bar that begins with 'you are here'; this bar lets you know where you are in relation to other relevant areas of the site. You can always get back to the related area or subject page from this box.
