Pohick Stream Restoration to Begin Nov. 1

A restoration of Pohick Creek at Queen Victoria Court and Parliament Drive will begin on November 1, 2017. The stream flows under Lake Braddock Drive and the project borders Southport and Signal Hill communities. Construction will continue for about 15 months, depending on the weather.

The restoration was identified by county staff as a 10-year, high priority project due to the severity of the erosion, the location in the headwaters of Pohick Creek and the general interest of the community. The project number is PC9249.

The project will restore 3,330 linear feet of a highly degraded tributary of Pohick Creek using natural channel design. The project will restore the ecological function of the stream, create a habitat for wildlife, and provide safe trails and property and infrastructure protection, among other benefits.

The trail through the project area will be closed during construction. Detour signs will direct pedestrians to alternate routes.

More information about the project is here.
