Drop-off Center to Close

Blake Lane Park Recycling Drop-off Center to Close Sept. 15, 2016

trash all over the groundThe recycling drop-off center at Blake Lane Park, located at 10033 Blake Lane in Oakton, will be closed permanently on Sept. 15, 2016. During the past several months, significant illegal dumping has occurred at this location. Illegal dumping creates a health hazard, is unsightly, pollutes our waterways, and requires extra collection services. Despite signage and monitoring, illegal dumping at the site has become a chronic problem, resulting in a high number of resident complaints.

The drop-off center predates curbside collection of recyclables, which is required by Chapter 109.1 of the Fairfax County ordinances. The need for the drop-off center has been greatly reduced by the availability of recyclables collection at residents’ homes.

If you do not receive recyclables collection at your residence, please contact the refuse collection company that serves your area. If your collector refuses to provide recycling service, or wishes to charge an additional fee, call the Fairfax County Solid Waste Management Program at the number below and ask for a member of the solid waste enforcement staff. The staff member will contact the collection company and address the situation to make sure that you receive the appropriate level of service.

The closure of the drop-off center will start with the placement of barriers and signs indicating that the drop-off center will be closed. Closure of the drop-off center has been coordinated with the Fairfax County Park Authority, the operators of this particular location. Should you have the need to recycle materials beyond what is collected at the curb, you may take recyclables to the Fairfax County Transfer Station located at 4816 West Ox Road in Fairfax, across from Costco.  Recyclables delivered to the transfer station are accepted at no charge; household waste delivered in bags to the transfer station can be disposed of at a nominal fee:

  • 1-5 bags of trash - $8
  • 6-10 bags of trash - $12
  • Seniors (60+) 2 bags $4
