The zoning and land development process in Fairfax County involves comprehensive reviews by numerous county and non-county agencies. The list below includes pending land use applications in the Dranesville District that require Board of Supervisor approval. The consideration of a Rezoning or Special Exception application includes an analysis by County staff and public hearings before the Fairfax County Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors. All applications are reviewed for conformance with the County’s Zoning Ordinance and Comprehensive Plan.
Special Use Permit applications are decided by the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA), which consists of seven members appointed by the Circuit Court. The Board of Supervisors does not have a role in appointing the BZA members or in deciding applications considered by the BZA. For more information about the BZA click here.
