Transportation & Mobility Hackathon

Coding Solutions to Congestion, Mobility & Safety

Fairfax County and the Virginia Department of Transportation held a hackathon on Nov. 16-17, 2017.Hackers at work during our transportation hackathon.

The event was designed to create innovative technology solutions to improve:

  • Traffic congestion
  • Safety
  • Mobility for senior, people with disabilities and others
  • Automated and connected vehicle technology

There were 11 teams that competed for cash prizes awarded to first, second and third place winners, plus a prize for a student team.

This event was presented with financial support from the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Qlarion and Reston Chamber of Commerce. Lunch was provided by Le Pain Quotidien.

Hackathon Pitches & Winners

Teams came up with ideas that included using artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict traffic accidents or traffic volumes, identify the safest intersections, and help people who are blind cross the street safely.
