Solarize, Fairfax County’s spring campaign to reduce the cost and complexity of installing solar panels, is going on now. Participants receive a free solar site assessment and discounted prices, as well as access to vetted contractors and community workshops and support. In the past two years, 1,800 homeowners and businesses signed up to receive solar assessments, resulting in approximately 60 solar installations.
By partnering with the Northern Virginia Regional Commission and the nonprofit Local Energy Alliance Program, Solarize Fairfax County is able to feature low prices selected through competitive bids. This year, Solarize contractors are offering their lowest prices yet – 17% lower than the average price in Virginia for a 6 kW system.
For the first time, in addition to solar panels, Solarize is offering Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. These can be installed independently or in conjunction with solar panels. If you install a charging station with solar panels, you’ll get an additional $250 discount.
If you’re considering solar panels, don’t miss the opportunity to receive the full 30% federal tax credit. After this year, the tax credit decreases, and it expires at the end of 2021. Other financial incentives available in Fairfax County include a solar energy equipment tax exemption and waived permit fees.
The 2019 campaign is open now through June 14th. Visit www.solarizefairfaxcounty.org to sign up or learn more. For an in-depth discussion with contractors and program staff, attend one of our information sessions on April 22nd, May 8th or May 30th.
