For the fifth year running, Fairfax County is participating in the Solarize program, bringing bulk discounts on solar systems to county residents and businesses in partnership with the Local Energy Alliance Program, or LEAP. Through the program, home and business owners are granted access to a pre-qualified solar installer for a no-cost evaluation of their property and can take advantage of cost savings should they decide to pursue a solar installation. The 2021 program will run from April 12 through June 30, with Solar Energy World serving as the pre-selected installer for the second year running.
Since 2014, more than 540 solar contracts have been signed through the program. The Solarize program offers participants a streamlined process for exploring and pursuing solar power for their residences and places of business. Those who decide to pursue solar through the program typically receive a 10-15 percent discount off current consumer rates for solar arrays and systems. This year, participants are eligible for a 26 percent federal tax credit, a rate that will fall to 22 percent in 2023. Fairfax County also has a solar energy equipment tax exemption that applies to program participants.
In 2021, for the first time, the Solarize program is offering participants the opportunity to install battery storage systems in connection with their arrays. Participants in the Solarize program will receive guidance from LEAP as to whether battery storage is appropriate for their property and needs.
Additionally, residential Solarize participants are eligible for a complimentary, virtual home energy assessment to help improve their home energy performance holistically. Solarize participants can also bundle electric vehicle charging stations with their solar system purchase to realize additional savings.
Solarize makes renewable energy solutions accessible and helps us move toward a world powered by clean energy, one property at a time. If you are curious about Solarize, attend one of three virtual information sessionstaking place in the coming months:
