The bulk of the energy in the office category is used by the Government Center complex, which includes the following administrative offices:
- The Government Center, which features the board auditorium, public meeting spaces, and departments such as Tax Administration and Elections;
- The Herrity Building, which houses the Department of Planning and Development, the Fairfax County Park Authority, and Land Development staff;
- The Pennino Building, which provides offices for social services;
- Public Safety Headquarters, which opened in October 2017 and consolidates the Police and Fire and Rescue Departments.
