This GIS polyline dataset is a comprehensive inventory of walkways and trails primarily maintained by the Maintenance and Stormwater Management Division (MSMD) and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). All pathways exist within Fairfax County and were identified with VDOT Form 1 asset inventory sheets and then transferred to a hard copy tax map book. The tax map book was then manually digitized with assistance of orthophotography and attributed at the point of creation. The project was initiated in the Summer of 2004 and preliminarily completed in the Fall of 2006.
