Virginia Department of Social Services has started posting SNAP benefits to all eligible SNAP households. VDSS is calculating the benefit amount for recipients with some payments issued today, Wednesday, November 13, and some to be issued over the weekend.

This partial federal payment is in addition to the 25% state-funded VENA payment that households have already received. Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) benefits were provided to those who were approved for SNAP as of October 29, 2025.

Since SNAP is funded at the federal level and supervised by the state, Fairfax County cannot control or change when SNAP funding will be released. At this time, it is unclear whether benefits will be issued retroactively once the shutdown ends.
