Shirley Gate Road Extended Corridor Study
Project News and Updates
Community Meeting Held July 19, 2016
A community meeting on the Shirley Gate Road extension project, hosted by Springfield Supervisor Pat Herrity and Planning Commisioner Pete Murphy, was held on July 19, 2016, at the Fairfax County Government Center, Conference Rooms 9 and 10, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax. A new interchange concept (with geometric variations) was proposed that may better serve the majority of area stakeholders; please see Slide #17 in the July 19 presentation below. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), along with the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT), is evaluating this newly-proposed concept and its variations.
Follow up to address the current Plan Amendment (2016-111-T1; Shirley Gate Road Extension), which demonstrates the preferred concept (see Slide #15 of the July 19 presentation), has been deferred. Previously scheduled public hearings with the Planning Commission on September 14, and the Board of Supervisors on October 18, 2016, also have been deferred.
