Date: February 18, 2010

Fatal Newington Trailer Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a trailer fire at approximately 6:30 a.m., Thursday, February 18, 2010, in the Newington area of Fairfax County. The 12 by 8 foot trailer, with no fixed address, was located at the intersection of Terminal Road and Day Street.

Firefighters encountered the trailer fully involved with fire upon arrival. The fire was quickly extinguished. Firefighters quickly performed a search and located a deceased adult male inside. Prior to the arrival of firefighters, a worker from a nearby business tried to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher.

Identification and next of kin notification is pending. The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Police and fire investigators are investigating the incident.
