Date: June 30, 2010
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a commercial building fire at approximately 8:30 a.m., Monday, June 28, 2010, in the Springfield area of Fairfax County. The structure, a video store, is located at 7000-A Brookfield Plaza.
Firefighters reported heavy fire from the front of the one-story strip shopping center upon arrival. The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes. Additional department resources were deployed quickly because of nearby fire department training, which made a difference. Two businesses sustained severe fire and smoke damage. In addition, multiple other businesses attached to the same structure sustained minor smoke damage. The video store was closed when the fire broke out. One firefighter received a non-life threatening injury and was transported to the Washington Hospital Burn Center.
Damage is estimated at $1.75 million.
