When:  Tuesday, August 31, 2010; 11 a.m.

The 2010 Career Firefighter of the Year ceremony will be held in the Massey Building, A-Level Conference Center, Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at 11 a.m.  Captain I David P. Conrad, Fire and Rescue Station 21, Fair Oaks, A-Shift, is the 2010 Career Firefighter of the Year.

A 28-year veteran of the department, Captain Conrad has performed superbly throughout his career and represented the organization, both on and off duty, with distinction. He is a 13-year member of Virginia Task Force 1 (VATF-1), Fairfax County's Urban Search and Rescue Team, deploying throughout the country, as well as internationally, to natural and man-made disasters. VATF-1 deploys under the authority of the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Captain Conrad is a search team manager with VATF-1.

The Firefighter of the Year Award is the department's highest award, established in 1985 to provide special recognition for outstanding service and dedication in keeping with the highest traditions of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. Captain Conrad is the 25th recipient of Firefighter of the Year.

Captain Conrad resides in Stafford, Virginia.
