Smoke Alarms Alert West Centreville Occupants
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department
News Release 12-14
Date: February 28, 2012
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Monday, February 27, 2012, at approximately 4:45 p.m. in the Centreville area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 6304 Hunt Chase Court.
Firefighters saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear and through the roof of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an initial interior fire attack, however, withdrew due to the overwhelming amount of fire on the entire second floor and attic area. Firefighters continued the fire attack from exterior positions, bringing the fire under control in approximately 40 minutes. Firefighters performed extensive salvage and overhaul operations for more than an hour after the fire was extinguished. Sounding smoke alarms provided early warning for the occupants, allowing them to escape. The five adult occupants have been displaced and are being supported by the Red Cross. Paramedics transported one of the occupants to the Washington Hospital Burn Center with non-life threatening injuries. Several of the family pets are missing.
Damage is estimated at $750,000.
The fire is under investigation.
