Accidental Annandale House Fire

Date:  September 24, 2013

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Monday, September 23, 2013, at approximately 4:25 p.m. in the Burke area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 4942 Andrea Avenue.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear and basement of the home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. Two adults were at home when the fire broke out and escaped unharmed. Three adults have been displaced and are being provided Red Cross support. A family friend in the basement alerted the occupants to the fire.

Damage is estimated at $150,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A torch used by a worker in the basement caused the fire.
