Date:  December 20, 2013

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a fire in an art gallery, Thursday, December 19, 2013 at approximately 9:50 a.m. in the Annandale area of Fairfax County. The business is located at 7261 Maple Place.

Firefighters encountered smoke and fire in a house that had been renovated several times, to include a business with residential units on the top and bottom floors. Firefighters located the seat of the fire on the first floor and conducted an aggressive fire attack, bringing the fire under control within minutes of their arrival. One adult male was transported to Washington Hospital Center for a non-life threatening injury.

Fire investigators are working with the owner of the property located inside the gallery to determine the value, as many paintings were damaged. The cause of the fire was determined to be a malfunction of a fan in the stove hood system.
