Fire Chief Selects Daniel V. Gray for Deputy Chief

Fire Chief Ronald L. Mastin has selected Battalion Chief Daniel V. Gray for promotion to Deputy Chief. Chief Gray will be assigned as Deputy Chief, Safety and Personnel Services Division, Personnel Services Bureau, effective May 4, 2013. Since June of 2006, he has served as Safety Battalion Chief, Safety and Personnel Services Division.

Chief Gray began his career as recruit firefighter in October 1984, and was initially assigned to Fire and Rescue Station 29, Tysons Corner. Career assignments and promotions include:

  • Technician, 1986, Fire and Rescue Station 29, Tysons Corner
  • Lieutenant, 1990, Fire and Rescue Station 25, Reston
  • Captain I, 1998, Academy
  • Captain II, 2002, EMS Supervisor, Fourth Battalion
  • Battalion Chief, 2005, EMS Battalion Chief, EMS Operations

As Deputy Chief, Safety and Personnel Services, he will be responsible for personnel, recruitment, and health and safety within the nearly 1,600 member organization.

Chief Gray is a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), and Secretary-Treasurer of IAFF Local 2068. He is Chairman, Health and Safety sub-committee, Washington Metropolitan Council of Government. As a member of the International Association Fire Chiefs, he also helped develop curriculum for FEMA's grant funding.

Chief Gray has been awarded the bronze medal of valor.

Chief Gray, his wife, and four children reside in Stafford County. Chief Gray is a second generation Fairfax County firefighter; his father, Eugene Gray, is a retired chief officer.
