Mount Vernon House Fire Displaces Five

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at approximately 7:50 p.m., in the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County. The single family house is located at 8019 Seaton Drive.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the ranch style home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive exterior fire attack keeping the fire from extending into the attic. All of the occupants were outside barbecuing when the fire broke out and were alerted by a sounding smoke alarm. Five adults have been displaced. Red Cross is supporting the displaced occupants. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $60,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire originated in a bedroom and is under investigation.
