Fatal Vehicle Fire in Crosspointe Area

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a vehicle fire, Monday, March 3, 2014, at approximately 7:30 p.m., in the Crosspointe area of Fairfax County. The vehicle was located on the southbound side of Ox Road, beyond the intersection of Furnace Road.

Firefighters encountered a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro fully involved with fire upon arrival. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and discovered a deceased male in the driver's seat.

The victim has been identified as Fidel Salmeron, Jr., 20, of Springfield. Next of kin has been notified.

According to fire investigators, the fire appears to have started in the engine compartment and had slid off the road. Fire investigators and Fairfax County Police are jointly investigating the incident.

The medical examiner will determine the cause the death.
