Accidental Annandale Townhouse Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a townhouse fire Saturday, April 12, 2014, at approximately 9:30 p.m., in the Annandale area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located 7407 Jayhawk Street.
Firefighters encountered smoke coming from the vents in the rear of the middle, three-story townhouse upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly brought the bulk of the fire under control in the basement. Additionally, firefighters spent approximately 45 minutes locating several pockets of fire within the walls. No one was home when the fire broke out. Four adults and two children have been displaced. Red Cross support was offered, but declined by the occupants. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $100,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An electrical anomaly in the basement caused the fire.
