Accidental Alexandria Area House Fire

Date:  May 19, 2014

Units from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and Alexandria Fire Department responded to a house fire Monday, May 19, 2014, at approximately 4:45 a.m., in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 5201 Cherokee Avenue.

Firefighters encountered a rambler-style home fully involved with fire upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an exterior fire attack using multiple hose lines due to the amount of fire. Firefighters were also able to keep the fire from spreading to any nearby homes. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 40 minutes. No one was home when the fire broke out. There were no injuries.

The home is a total loss.

According to fire investigators, the cause of the fire was accidental. An electrical anomaly in the attic area caused the fire.
