Disability Accomodations

Fairfax County General District Court is committed to providing citizens equal access to the court's services and facilities. While an accommodation is not guaranteed, efforts will be made to accommodate reasonable requests for disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Common examples of accommodations include but are not limited to access to a wheelchair, amplification of a court hearing, seating near the front of the courtroom, or appointment of a sign language interpreter.

When do I ask for an ADA request for accommodation?

Submit a request for ADA accommodations at least 10 days prior to the time the accommodation is needed; however, requests will be accepted at any time. Sufficient advance notice will usually improve the court's ability to accommodate the request.

Where do I find an ADA Request for Accommodations Form?

Print the ADA Request Form by clicking the following link: GDC ADA Public Request Form. If you are unable to complete it, contact the Clerk's Office for assistance completing the form over the phone, in person, or by email. See contact information below. Please note that, generally, this is the only court form a court clerk is able to assist with filling out.

What do I do with the ADA request form once I complete it?

Do one of the following:

  • Fax the completed ADA Request Form to the court's Administrative office at 703-591-2349.
  • Email the completed ADA Request Form or the same information requested to GDCmail@fairfaxcounty.gov.
  • File the completed ADA Request Form in person or by family member/friend with the respective Clerk's Office (Traffic, Criminal, Civil/Small Claims, Court Services). Office hours are Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
  • Call the Clerk's Office to file a request by phone.  See the Contacts page for the current phone numbers. Hearing impaired individuals using teletype equipment (TTY) can call the court through Virginia Relay 711.
When will I be contacted by the court?

You will be contacted by a General District Court ADA representative within approximately 2 business days after the court receives the request.

Is my ADA request guaranteed?

No. Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. All efforts will be made to accommodate reasonable requests related to a disability. Note that sufficient advanced notice will usually improve the court's ability to accommodate your request.

Who do I call with more questions after filing an ADA request?

Contact the General District Court Clerk's office with whom you filed the request.
