DPWES-Maintenance and Stormwater Management Division 20061000 FCPA_TRAILS vector digital data withheld WALKWAYS This GIS polyline dataset is a comprehensive inventory of walkways and trails primarily maintained by the Maintenance and Stormwater Management Division (MSMD) and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). All pathways exist within Fairfax County and were identified with VDOT Form 1 asset inventory sheets and then transferred to a hard copy tax map book. The tax map book was then manually digitized with assistance of orthophotography and attributed at the point of creation. The project was initiated in the Summer of 2004 and preliminarily completed in the Fall of 2006. Fairfax County Trails data was collected by GPS in 2007. The primary purpose of this dataset is to supply a widely available inventory, mapping and asset management tool and provide future capability for accessibility studies. Form 1 sheets are obtained periodically and list the portions of sidewalk or trail that VDOT and Fairfax County maintain. Form 1 sheets are essentially 1 = 200' scale maps of parcels and streets with symbols (X, O, [] ) along the edge of pavement to denote the presence of features, type of feature, and maintenance responsibility. Spatial Systems Associates, Inc. obtained resource materials from a variety of sources including: Fairfax County Park Authority and GPS field collection. The various sources were in paper and digital formats. QA/QC is still in progress, so data inconsistencies regarding attributes and position may be present. New trails/sidewalks located in areas where recent orthophotography coverage is absent are not captured.Fairfax County Park Authority Trails were captured by GPS is complete as possible with the current procedures and available resource materials and will be updated as needed. It was intended to digitize the centerline of the walkway/trail using orthophotography. Horizontal accuracy will vary dependent on creator, resolution of orthophotography, scale at which features were collected, and occasionally the availability and accuracy of planimetric data. No relative accuracy determined yet. The horizontal accuracy for Fairfax County Park Authority Trails is as accurate as possible based on gps settings and WAAS satellite corrections.
