Independent Police Auditor Complaint Process

You may download and/or print a complaint form PDF to submit in person, by email or mail. The same form is used for the auditor or review panel.


File an Initial Complaint

Initial complaints of alleged police misconduct to the Office of the Independent Police Auditor may be made by email, phone, mail or in person using the complaint form. Complaints will be investigated by the Fairfax County Police Department.

Request a Review of Completed Investigation

Members of the public may request a review of an already completed Fairfax County Police Department Investigation into alleged misconduct by email, phone, mail or in person using the complaint form.

  • In cases of officer-involved shooting, in-custody death or use of force:

The Independent Police Auditor reviews the investigation for accuracy, completeness, thoroughness, objectivity and impartiality and will issue a public report of its findings.

  • In cases of alleged abuse of authority or serious misconduct:

The Police Civilian Review Panel reviews the investigation for accuracy, completeness, thoroughness, objectivity and impartiality and will issue a public report of its findings.
