Changes to Health Department Services and Some Office Closings Still in Effect


Beginning Monday, Aug. 9, all employees and visitors – regardless of vaccination status – will be required to wear a mask while inside all Fairfax County facilities to help stop the spread of COVID-19. See announcement.


To help limit the spread of the coronavirus there are several closings and changes in Health Department Services.


The Health Department Administrative office at Kelly Square is closed.

Clinical Services

Effective May 24, 2021: The Fairfax County Health Department is offering essential services by appointment at its five district offices: Joseph Willard Health CenterAnnandale District OfficeSpringfield District OfficeMount Vernon District Office, and Herndon-Reston District Office

Essential services are ongoing but with specific limitations per service type. These limited services include immunizations, pregnancy tests, STI services, TB testing, yellow fever immunizations and WIC services. COVID-19 vaccines are available by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please use the Vaccine Administration Management System. COVID-19 Testing is also available Monday - Friday by appointment only by calling 703-324-7404. 

The Health Department will also continue to screen pregnant residents to determine if they meet the criteria for maternity services provided through a partnership with INOVA Cares Clinic for Women. To make an appointment, call 703-246-7100.

All Women, Infant and Children (WIC) services will be provided by phone. WIC clients can continue to call their preferred office site to schedule phone appointments. If you reach a voice mailbox, please leave a message and someone will return your call. 

Effective October 19, 2020: Dental services have resumed at the Herndon/Reston Office and Mount Vernon Office. Priority will be given to current patients and those in need of emergency dental care. Please visit the Dental Services page for more information.

Vital Records

Vital Records services will be offered at Joseph Willard Health Center Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Environmental Health Services

The Environmental Health lobby is now open to the public. Online services will continue to be available.

  • If you need to submit plans for a renovation that does not require a building permit see Introduction to Planning and Land Use System.
  • If your renovation requires you to obtain a building permit you must submit all plans directly to Fairfax County Land Development Services (LDS). Land Development Services has modified their submission procedures, effective Wednesday, March 25. Please see the LDS operating status webpage for details. If you have questions for LDS you may call 703-222-0801 or email For building permits and plans, submit ALL documents electronically. For site-related plans and documents, MOST documents can and should be submitted electronically.
