Suicide: Determining Who's at Risk and What to Do About It

This is a region-wide training for people who work with older adults in health and community settings including: home health workers, social workers, senior center staff and mental health professionals. The training is sponsored by the Suicide Prevention Alliance of Northern Virginia/Older Adult Group. Fairfax County Adult and Aging Services, the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board and the Long Term Care Coordinating Council are members of this alliance and are involved with planning the training.

You’ll learn:

•    Why suicide is a public health issue
•    How to recognize and respond to suicidal risk in older adults
•    Emergency psychiatric resources across the region
•    How to understand cultural and ethnic issues effecting assessment and intervention
