Nurse Practitioner

Main duties include psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, medication management, crises intervention, treatment recommendations, participation in multidisciplinary treatment teams, and coordination/integration of primary and behavioral healthcare.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to the following:

    • Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in nursing
    • Plus a Master’s Degree in nursing as a clinical nurse practitioner

Preferred Qualifications: PMH-NP, experience with treatment of serious mental illness and substance use disorders in a community setting; experience with providing emergency services; computer literate

Certificates and Licenses Required:

    • License to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of Virginia
    • Has obtained national certification as a Nurse Practitioner

Public Health Laboratory Technologist

Location: Fairfax County Health Department Laboratory, Fairfax  

Description: This position supports the Fairfax County Health Department Laboratory.  Primary duties include routine testing in Bacteriology, Mycobacteriology, Parasitology, Molecular, Rabies, and performing STD clinic duties. Performs complex testing in all areas of the laboratory. May perform routine testing in the following laboratory areas; Accessioning, Urinalysis, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Clinical Chemistry, Toxicology, Environmental Chemistry and Environmental Microbiology. Ensures specimen quality for laboratory testing. Operates testing systems and methodologies to produce accurate and timely data for patients, quality control, and proficiency samples. Reports data accurately and efficiently to healthcare providers/environmental health specialists utilizing computerized laboratory information system (LIS).  Demonstrates knowledge of operational and regulatory standards. Participates in professional growth opportunities to enhance personal and team development.

Preferred Qualification: Preferred candidate will be self-motivated, results-oriented with two years’ recent experience performing high-complexity testing in a clinical or public health laboratory setting.  Working knowledge of microbiological and molecular procedures, safety, and quality assurance is highly desirable for this position.  Experience with Laboratory Information System (LIS).  Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  Ability to read, analyze, interpret and communicate complex scientific, technical, administrative and educational documents.  Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints from both internal and external clients.  Experience and knowledge of Health Department policies and procedures is desirable.

Minimum Qualifications:  Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in medical technology, biology, chemistry, or a related field of study; Plus two years laboratory experience; Or possession of a valid certificate in medical technology issued by a nationally recognized society plus two years laboratory experience.

Certifications and Licenses Required: Contingent upon area of assignment, certification as a registered Medical Technologist issued by a nationally recognized society may be required and/or possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License.

Physical Requirements: Job is generally sedentary in nature. Visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor and laboratory equipment. The incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Must possess excellent communication skills. Employee may be required to lift up to 25 lbs. Manual dexterity required for manipulation of small test tubes, pipettors, and analyzer tubing.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Case Manager (Relief Nurse)

Hours: PRN-As needed which may include day, evening or night shifts, including weekend and holiday hours.

Exciting opportunity to work with multidisciplinary team at the Fairfax Detoxification Center, in a community-based residential setting. Staff is being enhanced and expanded to provide integrated services, addressing substance use and mental health disorders as well as co-occurring primary care needs. Programming includes medical and clinically managed detoxification, acupuncture, and case management and referral services. The nursing staff is responsible for clinical, medical and primary care issues.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in nursing; plus two years of post-licensure experience as a nurse, in the specialty area of psychiatric mental health nursing, substance use disorders, intellectual disabilities, or relevant clinical specialty.

Preferred Qualifications: Extensive experience working in the field of psychiatric mental health nursing, substance use disorders, intellectual disabilities, or relevant clinical specialty
