CALL TO ORDER

 

Commission Chair Gloria Crawford called the Wednesday, February 21, 2018, Commission meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

 

Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Commissioner S. Malik and seconded by Commissioner Griffin Paul that the February 21, 2018 agenda be approved as presented. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Commissioner Griffin Paul and seconded by Commissioner Solon that the January 17, 2018 minutes be approved as presented. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

 

STAFF ISSUES: Director Saunders updated the Commissioners on the January 2018 monthly report. The staff met the balance score card goals for the month. The numbers looked outstanding due to the extremely productive staff. Mr. Saunders also informed the Commissioner’s that the OHREP has hired a new investigator who will be starting March 5th.

 

 

COMMISSION BUSINESS:

 

HRC #2012130E APPEAL REVIEW. It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Griffin Paul that the staff findings be upheld and this matter be dismissed due to no cause finding. The motion passed by majority vote, with six yes votes, two no votes, and one abstention.

 

HRC #2017092H - FIR. It was moved by Commissioner S. Malik and seconded by Commissioner Selim that this complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Human Rights Ordinance has occurred consistent with the recommendation of the OHREP. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

HRC# 2017088H - FIR. It was moved by Commissioner Solon and seconded by Commissioner M. Malik that this complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Human Rights Ordinance has occurred consistent with the recommendation of the OHREP. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

HRC# 2016067H - CONCILIATION AGREEMENT. It was moved by Commissioner S. Malik and seconded by Commissioner Salinas that the conciliation agreement in this matter be accepted as presented. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

HRC# 2015070E - Request for Dismissal. Director Saunders informed the Commissioners regarding the complainant’s request that the case be closed so he can request a Substantial Weight Review from the EEOC. It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by S. Malik that this case be dismissed. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

 

COMMUNITY CONCERNS: There were no Community Concerns.

 

 

PENDING BUSINESS: Awards Committee – Commissioner Crawford welcomed Commissioner M. Malik back to the Commission and gave a brief update on the status of the award. Commissioner Crawford would like to have a link providing the Virginia Peters Award (VPA) nomination form on the front page of the website. Commissioner Crawford encouraged distributing the VPA nomination forms to the Commissioners.

 

NEW BUSINESS: There was no New Business.
