CALL TO ORDER

Commission Chair Gloria Crawford called the Wednesday, January 4, 2017, Commission meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner S. Malik that the agenda be approved as amended. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Selim that the December 7, 2016, minutes be approved as presented. The motion passed by majority vote with one abstention.

STAFF ISSUES

There were no staff issues

COMMISSION BUSINESS

HRC# 2015034E – It was moved by Commissioner Selim and seconded by Commissioner S. Malik that staff findings be upheld and this matter be dismissed due to no cause finding. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

HRC#2016095H – It was moved by Commissioner Alber and seconded by Commissioner S. Malik that a finding of reasonable cause based on evidence sufficient to establish that a violation of the Human Rights Ordinance has occurred consistent with the recommendation of OHREP. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

HRC #2016088H – It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner M. Malik that the conciliation agreement in this matter be accepted as presented. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

COMMUNITY CONCERNS

The Fairfax County Public Schools requested that a Commissioner serve as a Representative to provide input on criteria for the selection of the new Fairfax County Public School Superintendent. S. Malik agreed to provide input, if his schedule permits. Commissioner Salinas agreed to serve as an alternate.

PENDING BUSINESS

The Commission discussed administrative issues related to the awards presentation it would make as part of the Fair Housing Month Luncheon.

NEW BUSINESS

There was no new business.
